Watch collectors from around the world were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience, compliments of the Audemars Piguet Dream Team.
Audemars Piguet has always had a longstanding relationship with golf, derived from the shared love of perfection in the craft. The precision, dedication and elegance of watchmaking are no different from a golfer that works tirelessly to transcend his limits. The Audemars Piguet Dream Team symbolises the focus on assembling a team of the world’s finest golfers.
Since 2013, the Audemars Piguet Golf Invitationals have been organised biannually by the Swiss Haute Horlogerie brand based on one concept: combine world-class golfers with passionate watch collectors and let the magic happen.
The first invitational for 2017 took place at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Florida with a Dream Team line up that was nothing short of spectacular.
The team comprised of Open Champion Henrik Stenson, Masters winner Danny Willett, former world number one Lee Westwood, South Africa’s golfing gem Branden Grace – who recently became the first player ever to score 62 in a major, highlight of the year Bernd Wiesberger, Englishman Ian Poulter, South Korean Ben An, Argentinian Emiliano Grillo and Andrew “Beef” Johnston, crowd favourite and a new addition to the team of golfing ambassadors.
All of whom perfectly embody the Audemars Piguet philosophy, “To break the rules, you must first master them”.
72 Audemars Piguet watch collectors from around the globe get to experience a day in the life of a professional golfer, being coached and competing with some of the best in the industry, along with firsthand stories from the professionals themselves.
Serena Williams, tennis champion and also Audemars Piguet ambassador, completed the family picture during a dinner organised at Ian Poulter’s home, where the day concluded with a presentation of the Royal Oak Chronograph collection.
Held at The Els Club, where Audemars Piguet is the Official Timekeeper, the second invitational for this year was a celebration as the season draws to a close.
There were familiar faces among the Dream Team, along with former Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke, the young American Peter Uihlein, Englishman Andy Sullivan and world number 16 Tyrrell Hatton as special guest.
Conceivably the most fitting choice, PGA professionals and world renowned golf YouTubers Andy Proudman and Piers Ward assumed the roles as emcees for the day, setting up a fun team challenge for the ambassadors on the driving range before sending them to captain their respective teams around the Els Club’s challenging 18 holes; a wonderful way to cap the year for both watch brand and golf, and a slice of something to look forward during this year’s events.
